  • Wrangler JK - Mirror Options

Worried about the lack of mirrors when you take the doors off your Wrangler JK? Check out these mirror options. They're ideal for summertime use around town or on the trail. These mirrors will let you maintain visibility and safety while making the most of your Jeep!

4 Mirror Options For Safe Summer Fun!

On older Jeep vehicles like the CJ-7, the mirrors are usually seen mounted on the windshield brackets. However, the JK features large plastic mirrors. The JK is much larger than an early Wrangler or CJ-7. Thus, mirrors are helpful on the highway or parking around town. Also, some states are very strict about mirror laws. So if you're running doorless or with aftermarket half doors, here are four options you should consider.

    Rugged Ridge - Quick Release

The true "door off" mirror option are the Rugged Ridge Quick Release mirrors. These mirrors are similar to the old CJ mirrors. Affixed to the windshield frame, these mirrors will work with doors on or off. Installation is a snap, and you can use the quick release feature if you want to remove these in a hurry! Comes in a satin black finish. Priced at $62.99.

    Rugged Ridge Door Mirror Kit

These mirrors are the Rugged Ridge OEM "replica" mirror kit. These mirrors are nearly identical to the OEM Jeep mirrors. If you're running Rugged Ridge or MOPAR half doors for the summer, these mirrors are a great option. UV protected black plastic housing. Note that doors are required. This kit DOES NOT fit to your windshield frame. Priced at $180.99.

    Body Armor Trail Door Mirrors

These mirrors are designed for the Body Armor trail doors. Trail doors are an aftermarket half door, great for the summer, but lacking in an OEM Jeep mirror mount. If you like the classic YJ/TJ Wrangler mirrors, check these out. Simplified design for easy storage, folds flush to the door. Furthermore, they're easily adjustable! Priced at $147.78.

    Body Armor Mirror Options

    Oracle Mirrors With Illumination

These mirrors by Oracle are great for replacing the mirrors on your full doors, or if you're running half doors for the summer and want more illumination. Producing 2200 Lumens, these mirrors are great for lighting up peripheral areas beyond your headlights' reach. Check out the range of illumination and our Project VANDAL pictures at! $420.75.

    Oracle Mirrors

    Go Fully Equipped!

Don't go ill-equipped without mirrors for your half-doors or doorless rides this summer. Whether it's to comply with your state law or just for added safety, these aftermarket mirror options can save you and your Jeep. Got questions? Don't hesitate to give us a call at 828-675-8789.

  • Advantages of Exterior LINE-X Coating

    Why Choose LINE-X Exterior Coating?

If you've ever worried about scratches or dents on your vehicle, you may want to check out LINE-X coating. Commonly used in the beds of pickup trucks, LINE-X is a durable solution for all of your fit and finish concerns. This spray on coating can be color matched to any Jeep factory paint code. More durable than ever, the current generation product will resist cracking, peeling, and color fading, giving it an edge over the competition. A LINE-X treatment also includes UV protection for added defense against the harmful rays of the sun. The innovative protective coating features a long-lasting rich gloss finish that gives your vehicle a constant "just sprayed" look. It permanently bonds at the molecular level to keep your vehicle's outer body fully protected for years to come.

    LINE-X Exterior Coating

LINE-X vs. Kevlar or Rhino Liner

The two main products that compete here, not pictured, are Rhino Liner and what are sometimes referred to as "Kevlar" coatings. While these products may give the appearance of a high quality spray on protective coating. They have several shortfalls. The key problem with these so called "Kevlar" coatings is simple. As anyone remotely familiar with Kevlar (used in bulletproof vests, for example) can tell you, Kevlar is vulnerable to UV rays. This means that over time, the Kevlar part of the spray on coating can degrade, especially if the vehicle is kept outside. Rhino Liner has similar issues with UV when it comes to durability and fading. Rhino has a softer rubber based construction than the  LINE-X plastic based construction.  The LINE-X coating is sprayed 10x thicker than the Kevlar but unlike Kevlar does not allow for  details to be added into the coating. We recommend LINE-X exterior coating over both competitor products.

  • Wrangler JK - Half Door Options

Half door options are not available from the factory for most current generation Jeep Wrangler JK and JK Unlimited models. But, during the warmer months, and in warmer climates, many seasoned Wrangler owners prefer them. Half doors allow you the flexibility to detach the soft upper windows, leaving the metal door and side view mirror in place. Riders can still experience the open-air freedom, yet have some protection. In years past, the only option for full-door JK owners who wanted half doors was to order a complete set from MOPAR. As you can imagine, this was rather expensive. But thanks to companies like Body Armor, Rugged Ridge and Bestop, you can now add half doors to your JK for a fraction of the cost!

    Body Armor TrailDoors

body-armor-white-jeep-wrangler-jk-unlimited-generation-3-trail-doors-half-doorBody Armor offers a set of half-doors for the Wrangler JK and JK-Unlimited, known as the Gen 3 TrailDoors. These doors are tube-doors, but with a unique twist; they feature cargo nets! These TrailDoors are ideal for the JK owner who wants prefers more open-air freedom than a standard half-door, but not as wide-open as a traditional tube-door. The Gen 3 TrailDoors also feature adjustable door pins, for that perfect fit on your JK. Available in a textured black powder coat.

Rugged Ridge Half Doors or Tube Doors

rugged-ridge-half-door-steelRugged Ridge offers two options for half doors. The true half door features a steel frame with an impact and UV resistant thermoplastic housing. If you're looking for OEM style, fit, and finish, you'll be happy with Rugged Ridge Half Doors with the steel frame and thermoplastic housing. You can paint the matte black thermoplastic to match your factory color. These doors also feature weather seals for protection against moisture and road noise. Soft upper door frames (not included) will install in a snap, and these half-doors work with either the OEM mirrors, or aftermarket mirrors by Rugged Ridge. The steel half doors also feature a locking mechanism and a storage area.rugged-ridge-half-door-tube-doors-wrangler-jk-11509The Rugged Ridge tube doors, however, take a more bare-bones approach to the half door market. Constructed from 1.5" mandrel bent steel and powdercoated in a flat, textured black finish, these doors are great for the Jeep owner who wants to maintain a full open-air experience. On the trail these tube doors increase the field of view from that of the standard full doors or solid half doors. The tube doors feature OEM style hinges and a locking mechanism, and they'll work with aftermarket Rugged Ridge or OEM side-view mirrors.

    Bestop Half Doors

bestop-half-door-jeep-wrangler-jk-jkuBestop manufactures two types of half doors for the Jeep Wrangler JK and JKU. For those looking for soft doors, the Bestop Half Doors are a great choice. The doors feature a steel frame construction, durable fabric covering, and they mount right into the factory door hinges. These half doors include paddle handles, and are available in front, rear, and combo (both front and rear) sets. These doors do not fit soft uppers.bestop-half-door-jeep-wrangler-jk-jku-unlimitedThe Bestop 2-piece doors are for the JK owner looking to mount soft-uppers to a lower soft-door. These two-piece doors resemble the soft doors that were popular on older CJ models, such as the CJ-5 and CJ-7. This option is perfect for spring and summer, when your full doors are stored. The soft doors are light, so taking them on and off during the warmer months is a breeze. Since the 2-piece doors also feature zip-up soft windows, these doors can protect the interior of the JK during rain showers and highway excursions.body-armor-traildoors-half-door

  • Wrangler JK Interior - BedRug Liners

BedRug Liners Reign In Form and Function

BedRug liners are some of the best aftermarket floor liner replacements for the Wrangler JK. In terms of durability and ease of maintenance, BedRug reigns superior. BedRug's original BedRug Premium Carpet floor kit is offered for both the Jeep Wrangler JK and JK Unlimited. This kit gives you the look and feel of a premium carpeted interior -- without all the downsides of OEM carpet! For example, BedRug Carpet is resistant to mold and mildew. As any Jeep Wrangler owner knows, water and moisture soaking into OEM carpet can result in a dirty, moldy mess. This is true even with hard-top models.

    The Benefits of BedRug Liners

On older CJ's and early generation Wranglers, the answer to this problem is the removal of the factory carpet set and addition of a spray or roll on bedliner product. However, some owners may not like the roughness of bedliner. Some may have reservations about scuffing up the inside of a brand new $45,000 vehicle during preparation and install. Also, depending on the prep work, the bedliner may not adhere correctly to the tub. The Jeep usually needs to sit for several days for the bedliner to cure properly. Add in the fact that the entire interior needs to be removed, the dash taped off and the metal sanded down. All in all, you're looking at a sizable project.

    BedRug Liners-Premium-Carpeted-Front-Floor-Kit-Rear-Seat

The benefits of BedRug are that the seats do not have to be removed, so install is a snap. The material, featuring a ¼ inch polypropylene foam layer and heat shields, dries quickly after getting wet. This is very useful for those unexpected rain showers when driving with the top down, or for when you want to wash the BedRug. This product is 100% waterproof and is custom molded to fit the interior on your Jeep. BedRug is also available for the Jeep CJ-7, YJ, and TJ, in addition to the latest generation Jeep JK and JK Unlimited (shown here).

    BedTred Liners Are Removable

BedRug BedTred LinersIf the carpet set isn't for you, or if you still want that rough and tough bedliner feel, check out BedTred, also by BedRug. This product gives you the spray-in bedliner look, without all of the hassle. BedTred is also custom molded to fit your interior, is easy to install and remove, and is 100% waterproof. BedTred will never stain or mold, and is resistant to harsh chemicals. This means you can remove BedRug after a day on the trails and hose it down, no worries! Featuring ¼ inch thick polypropylene foam and heat shields, BedTred is made to last, and also dampens road noise!BedRug Liners

BedRug Liners Give You Affordable Flexibility

So whether you like the look and feel of a premium carpet set or the toughness of the classic bedliner style, BedRug gives you affordable flexiblity. Offered in front, rear, or complete sets, both BedTred and BedRug kits can be ordered for the classic body style CJ-7, YJ, and TJ, and the new Jeep Wrangler JK and JK Unlimited. It's a sturdy low-maintenance solution for all of your off-road adventures.  Shop now!

  • Wrangler JK - Performance Options

When upgrading your Jeep, check out these performance options. Engine upgrades, exhaust kits, air intakes and more are just as important as flashy LED light bars or high-dollar lift kits. Don't let the performance of your vehicle suffer. With lift kits and larger tires comes decreased vehicle performance. Your JK will accelerate slower and have a lower top speed with inappropriate gearing and inaccurate shift points, for example. Fix these problems with the following performance options, perfect for bringing that pep back from your Wrangler's OEM days!

Performance Options To Get You Back on Track

From the factory, your Wrangler JK seemed to have it all. Great acceleration and top speed for an SUV, decent fuel economy, merging and passing power on the highway, and more. Fast forward six months and you've added a lift kit, 37's, armor, a winch, and loads of accessories. The OEM pep and power from the V6 3.6L just doesn't seem like it used to. Furthermore, the transmission seems to shift at odd times, and the RPMs feel like they're a tad too much for highway travel. The performance of your vehicle has fallen. With just about any vehicle, if you change enough of an OEM equation, you'll feel it in the performance of your ride. The following is a list of performance upgrades we recommend for the Wrangler JK, to get your build back on track!

    Superchargers: Magnuson or Sprintex?

For superchargers, we recommend Magnuson and Sprintex. The Magnuson supercharger will give you 80-100 more HP, and is sure to bring back the lost OEM performance on your JK or JKU. A Magnuson supercharger will also net you a 60-70 ft/lb of torque gain. This supercharger is a powerful and reliable option for your Wrangler JK. Starting at $5,695.00, pictured above.

The Sprintex supercharger, pictured below, is another great option. Starting at $5,495.00, this product includes a tuner for your engine and transmission shift points, and pegs up to 302 WHP and up to 307 ft/lbs of torque. Sprintex is a great company, and we highly recommend these products. If you're trying to restore lost power and don't want to invest in a V8 engine swap, a Magnuson or Sprintex supercharger may be for you.

    Air Intakes

An aftermarket air intake kit can vastly improve upon the airflow from the OEM setup. Moreover, this upgrade usually gains you around 8 horsepower and 10-12 ft/lbs of torque. Coupled with an engine swap or supercharger, or even on an OEM engine, an aftermarket air intake helps you make the most of your Jeep. The engine will pull air more efficiently through an aftermarket intake. This translates to better fuel economy and power for your Wrangler. Starting around $300.00, we recommend Banks (pictured above), Airaid, AFE, and more!

    Exhaust Kits

An aftermarket exhaust upgrade is great for the Jeep with an old or rusted exhaust system, or for those looking to squeeze just a little more power from the engine. Choose from several cool and unique exhaust tips. Upgrade your OEM single pipe to the classic "dual exhaust" setup, and more! We recommend Borla, Gibson, AFE, and Banks. Starting at $338.87, an aftermarket exhaust kit will give your Jeep that deep exhaust tone you've always wanted, while helping improve your power and efficiency. Perfect for stock builds to show Jeeps, and more!

    Gear Sets: Yukon or Alloy?

Gears are a performance upgrade often overlooked by most Jeep owners. An expensive upgrade, gears are the best option, bar an engine swap, for restoring lost power to your Jeep. That being said, gear ratios can look complex to one unfamiliar with Jeeps or vehicles in general. We recommend and carry Yukon and Alloy USA gear sets. These gears go inside the differentials on the Jeep Wrangler JK. Aftermarket differential gears will help your engine pull through the transmission gears more efficiently. Furthermore, a gear ratio change will bring your Jeep back to OEM specs with RPMs on the highway, and more. This translates to not only better fuel economy on the highway, but better power around town!  Stay tuned for our Gear Ratio blog post and tire size/gear chart.

Programmers To Unlock Your Hidden Potential.

If we're talking modern vehicles like the Wrangler JK, we need to cover programmers. Gone are the days of simple electronic fuel injection (EFI) or carburetors in Jeeps. Now even a simple gear ratio change may cause the on-board computer to enter "limp mode" or another similar emergency function. While on-board computers are more complicated than ever, don't let that ruin the fun or possibilities with upgrading your Jeep! Aftermarket programmers can help the Jeep adjust to gear ratio changes, set shift points, correct the speedometer gauge, and more! We recommend AEV and Superchips. Starting at $170.00, aftermarket programmers can unlock your Jeep's hidden potential at the push of a button!

Which Performance Upgrade Is Right For You?

While there are more upgrade options than ever for your Wrangler JK, we believe that these are the cream of the crop. We have installed or worked with each of these products in our shop, and readily recommend them for your build. If you're still unsure which performance upgrade is right for you, give us a call today, we're glad to help you choose the right product for your build. See you on the trail!

  • American Expedition Vehicles

If you're looking to upgrade your Jeep Wrangler JK or JK Unlimited, check out American Expedition Vehicles products. AEV has been around since the 1990s. Some of the company's first projects included a Jeep Wrangler YJ stretch and a TJ stretch to CJ-8 length wheelbase. This directly inspired the Jeep Wrangler LJ for the final few years of the TJ production run. AEV began manufacturing certain conversion kits, like highlight fenders and the popular Brute kits soon after. For the Wrangler JK, AEV accessories range from tire carriers and bumpers to wheels and lift kits, and a few things in between.

    Modern American Expedition Vehicles

American Expedition Vehicles Front Bumper WinchWhile most of the old crowd remember Nth Degree suspension kits and the TJ Brute pickup, the new JK group is what we'll discuss here. For the most refined and up-to-date Jeep Wrangler, AEV geared it's products toward the higher-end Jeep crowd. We'll take a look at their premium front and rear bumpers, wheels, lift kits and more. But we'll start with a look at the popular AEV Brute Double Cab conversion in the photo above.

The AEV Brute Double Cab conversions begin with a standard Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited and transform it into a crew-cab pickup. The OEM frame is cut in half and the cargo area is removed, along with the soft or hard top. The frame is lengthened, the cab area is closed off, and the Brute pickup bed is added. The crew cab gets a unique hard-top, but the front freedom panels are reused. All current JK Brute Double Cab conversions are done in-house by AEV in Michigan. The finished vehicles are then shipped back to RubiTrux for further modifications, or to the owner.

American Expedition Vehicles front bumperThe Brute Double Cab and the above Mojave Sand Jeep both feature the AEV Premium Front Bumper. This bumper is a durable, high quality upgrade to replace the flimsy plastic OEM unit. You can add a winch, external auxiliary lights, bumper mounted fogs, and a grille guard hoop. In the Brute image above, you can see a Warn winch housed inside the bumper. The version on the Mojave Sand Jeep features a winch delete plate. This plate is used if you don't have a winch, and gives the bumper a nice finished look. You can also get a matching AEV rear bumper and tire carrier like the one below.

American Expedition Vehicles JK Tire CarrierThe AEV Rear Bumper and Tire Carrier combo are a nice match for the front bumper. The AEV Rear Bumper is durable, and features space for a hitch and two auxiliary water tanks (look just under the license plate holder). The Tire Carrier fixes directly to the bumper and rear hatch of the Wrangler, and is great for those builds with large tires, such as this Wrangler JKU on 37's.

Compare with other aftermarket bumpers here.

    Lift Kits

American Expedition Vehicles Lift Kit JK

AEV also manufactures high quality lift kits for the Wrangler JK. These lift kits range from budget-friendly setups, to complete kits in the 2-2.5" range, to full 4.5" kits. These kits are by far the best combination of ride quality and off-road ability on the market. Geometry brackets and Bilstein Shocks, along with the AEV variable rate springs keep suspension components aligned and the ride better than OEM! If you're looking for a top-of-the-line lift kit for your new Jeep, look no further. We build about 95% of our builds with AEV kits, and with good reason. Most customer's also prefer AEV on the Wrangler JK platform, unless you're looking to build a dedicated off-road vehicle, such as Project: VANDAL. Be sure to click through our build pictures to decide what size lift kit and tire would work best on your Jeep.
