When upgrading your Jeep, check out these performance options. Engine upgrades, exhaust kits, air intakes and more are just as important as flashy LED light bars or high-dollar lift kits. Don't let the performance of your vehicle suffer. With lift kits and larger tires comes decreased vehicle performance. Your JK will accelerate slower and have a lower top speed with inappropriate gearing and inaccurate shift points, for example. Fix these problems with the following performance options, perfect for bringing that pep back from your Wrangler's OEM days!
Performance Options To Get You Back on Track
From the factory, your Wrangler JK seemed to have it all. Great acceleration and top speed for an SUV, decent fuel economy, merging and passing power on the highway, and more. Fast forward six months and you've added a lift kit, 37's, armor, a winch, and loads of accessories. The OEM pep and power from the V6 3.6L just doesn't seem like it used to. Furthermore, the transmission seems to shift at odd times, and the RPMs feel like they're a tad too much for highway travel. The performance of your vehicle has fallen. With just about any vehicle, if you change enough of an OEM equation, you'll feel it in the performance of your ride. The following is a list of performance upgrades we recommend for the Wrangler JK, to get your build back on track!
Superchargers: Magnuson or Sprintex?
For superchargers, we recommend Magnuson and Sprintex. The Magnuson supercharger will give you 80-100 more HP, and is sure to bring back the lost OEM performance on your JK or JKU. A Magnuson supercharger will also net you a 60-70 ft/lb of torque gain. This supercharger is a powerful and reliable option for your Wrangler JK. Starting at $5,695.00, pictured above.
The Sprintex supercharger, pictured below, is another great option. Starting at $5,495.00, this product includes a tuner for your engine and transmission shift points, and pegs up to 302 WHP and up to 307 ft/lbs of torque. Sprintex is a great company, and we highly recommend these products. If you're trying to restore lost power and don't want to invest in a V8 engine swap, a Magnuson or Sprintex supercharger may be for you.
An aftermarket air intake kit can vastly improve upon the airflow from the OEM setup. Moreover, this upgrade usually gains you around 8 horsepower and 10-12 ft/lbs of torque. Coupled with an engine swap or supercharger, or even on an OEM engine, an aftermarket air intake helps you make the most of your Jeep. The engine will pull air more efficiently through an aftermarket intake. This translates to better fuel economy and power for your Wrangler. Starting around $300.00, we recommend Banks (pictured above), Airaid, AFE, and more!
An aftermarket exhaust upgrade is great for the Jeep with an old or rusted exhaust system, or for those looking to squeeze just a little more power from the engine. Choose from several cool and unique exhaust tips. Upgrade your OEM single pipe to the classic "dual exhaust" setup, and more! We recommend Borla, Gibson, AFE, and Banks. Starting at $338.87, an aftermarket exhaust kit will give your Jeep that deep exhaust tone you've always wanted, while helping improve your power and efficiency. Perfect for stock builds to show Jeeps, and more!
Gear Sets: Yukon or Alloy?
Gears are a performance upgrade often overlooked by most Jeep owners. An expensive upgrade, gears are the best option, bar an engine swap, for restoring lost power to your Jeep. That being said, gear ratios can look complex to one unfamiliar with Jeeps or vehicles in general. We recommend and carry Yukon and Alloy USA gear sets. These gears go inside the differentials on the Jeep Wrangler JK. Aftermarket differential gears will help your engine pull through the transmission gears more efficiently. Furthermore, a gear ratio change will bring your Jeep back to OEM specs with RPMs on the highway, and more. This translates to not only better fuel economy on the highway, but better power around town! Stay tuned for our Gear Ratio blog post and tire size/gear chart.
Programmers To Unlock Your Hidden Potential.
If we're talking modern vehicles like the Wrangler JK, we need to cover programmers. Gone are the days of simple electronic fuel injection (EFI) or carburetors in Jeeps. Now even a simple gear ratio change may cause the on-board computer to enter "limp mode" or another similar emergency function. While on-board computers are more complicated than ever, don't let that ruin the fun or possibilities with upgrading your Jeep! Aftermarket programmers can help the Jeep adjust to gear ratio changes, set shift points, correct the speedometer gauge, and more! We recommend AEV and Superchips. Starting at $170.00, aftermarket programmers can unlock your Jeep's hidden potential at the push of a button!
